The Alberni Valley News is a division of Black Press and has been serving the Alberni Valley and the West Coast for 10 years. The paper is published in Ladysmith, with 9,500 copies delivered twice weekly, and of course the paper is available to read online.
Teresa Bird, the Publisher of the Alberni Valley News since May of 2011, has been involved in community newspapers for 35 years and came to the Alberni Valley by way of the North Island Gazette in Port Hardy. Teresa was the publisher and editor of the award-winning North Island Gazette when it was voted best all-round newspaper by the Canadian Community Newspaper Association (CCNA) for its circulation size in 2010. Congratulations Teresa!
The Alberni Valley News is also an award winning newspaper, winning the 2015 Silver CCNA Award for General Excellence and the 2015 Gold for Best Holiday Edition.
The paper has nine staff, including three young, talented and enthusiastic reporters. Susie Quinn is the Alberni Valley News editor. A journalist since 1987, Susie has won awards at the regional, provincial and national level for both her writing and photography.
As part of their commitment to the community, the Alberni Valley News teams are active in local theatre, business, civic affairs and other volunteer-driven activities.
