Your Chamber of Commerce

The ALBERNI VALLEY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE  is the “voice of business” for the entire region. Registered under the federal Boards of Trade Act, the chamber is a membership-driven organization focused on continually improving the business climate in the community.

Our vision is to make the Alberni Valley a leading business-friendly community in BC.

We support and promote our business community, through advocacy, education and communication.

Accomplished through:

  •  Supporting and promoting members and the business community at large.
  •  Being the focal point for tourism and visitor services.
  • Advancing the general welfare of the community.
  • Communication to the Member Community via Newsletters, e-blasts, social media, etc.
  • Dinner / Networking Meetings held periodically throughout the Port Alberni area designed to foster Networking opportunities while featuring guest speakers on pertinent informational topics.
  • Annual Business Excellence Awards held each April where approximately 18 - 20 Awards are given out to deserving individuals and business organizations in the community.
  • Through our various Committees such as the Government Relations one we monitor and comment on Local, Provincial and National matters that affect the well-being of our community.
  • Coordination of the Ambassador Program in the Alberni Valley; a program where volunteer retirees give back to the community by way of their presence at Cathedral Grove, Harbour Quay and other local venues. These locations see an abundance of travellers, many from other Continents, who are keen to learn more about the Alberni Valley.
  • Management of the Mobile Visitor Center - a combination of a branded mini-van with #ExplorePortAlberni prominently displayed along with a utility trailer that is brought to higher scale events. Its branded with the Visitor Services logo for easy identification.
  • Organizating and managing of specific events such as: The Paper Chase a 15k run as part of the Vancouver Island Race Series each March.  In the recent past we organized both the No. 7 Challenge and the Tri-Conic Challenge which featured a running race against the local Steam Train. These races are currently on-hold as we await for a potential return of the train. Perhaps 2021?
  • We involve ourselves in many areas that affect or could affect the well-being of the employers in the Alberni Valley. Recent projects that we've been involved with include: Development of the local Airport, Protecting local tax-payers from unnecessary purchases by local government such as a garbage truck that we felt wasn't necessary. We've also been heavily involved in the SRKW/Fraser River Chinook issues affecting the Recreational Fishing Industry throughout Vancouver Island. We're working with others through our Board of Directors on projects such as new Signage for Port Alberni, an RV Pull-out, Beautification and potential roundabouts. The Chamber has led the push with the BC Government to do 'something' about the chaos through Cathedral Grove and that is now high on the agenda for Government.
  • We have hosted two major projects through the Rural Dividends program including the Tourism Training Program of 2015 - 2017 and the Entrepreneur Training Program of 2018 - 2020.
